The longest lived musician to-date?
Very long-lived individuals who stay active way past their 100th birthday are exceptionally rare, from Methuselah to Elliot Carter. Yet the latest issue of Fontes Artis Musicae, the journal of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centers, brings to our attention a collection of essays dedicated to the Wesley family of musicians, of which one called “The Younger” had a remarkable life span of 177 years. Music activity is known to preserve the brain, and conducting the body as well. As the French say (with a twist): “Tout doit sur terre mourir un jour, mais les musiciens vivront toujours.”
« The Younger » truly lived a long life. I’m also in love with music. I sing and I specifically play the piano, guitar, and ukulele. For me, Music brings life, gives life, and is life.
